Last week kindergarten finished their abstract paintings, full of color and meaning. After analyzing the abstract works of Wassily Kandinsky (their observations and thoughts are priceless!), they listened to Mozart and began the black portion of their paintings. After they painted the first letter of their name, they painted in response to questions...if they like pizza and donuts you might see circles, vertical lines represent each year they are old, five dots verses three for chocolate lovers/non-lovers, zigzag or wavy lines indicate whether or not they have stairs in their house, etc. Day two was a fun day of adding color to their creations, with the only direction being to keep the paint colors clean for their tablemates. This was a great learning lesson to review proper painting techniques and to plant the seed that "modern" art may look crazy but there's meaning in there somewhere. I love the variety and all the experimentation that went on - amazing artwork kindergartners!
My apologies to the artists if any of these are upside down...
