We are Beautiful
First graders finished their self-portraits this week. They used mirrors to study themselves and identify where their facial features are situated in relation to each other. The finishing touch was reflecting on their friends and writing positive words on each other's artwork. These are wonderful first grade...a great demonstration of artistry and friendship!!

Flowers of Love
After looking at famous flower paintings by Monet, Van Gogh and O'Keeffe for inspiration, first graders began their surprise Mother's Day bouquets. They constructed their flower vases and then worked in both 2D and 3D to create the perfect bouquet. Such a lovely variety of sizes, shapes and colors!

Easter Landscapes
First grade used crayon and watercolors to create Easter landscapes featuring pattern and changing color value. Their lovely watercolor palette choices convey different moods from joy to sorrow.

Pinch Pots
First graders have finished their air-dry clay pinch pots and they are lovely. I'm so proud of their creativity, both in shaping their clay and with their painted designs. They also demonstrated wonderful restraint by not "pinching" their clay too thin which is such a temptation for young hands. You continue to amaze me first graders!
