Native American Indian Medicine Shields

First graders began this project by closing their eyes and going on a vision quest to find their power animal. They then embarked on decorating their shields: they started with a pattern of geometric shapes around the perimeter, then they drew their power animal in the center, they added symbols to represent something about themselves, and finally used plastic needles to string beads on feather strings to tie to their shields. They look amazing and I'm so proud of all of their focused creativity!
