Chinese New Year

After discussing and viewing pictures of Chinese scrolls, first graders celebrated the Chinese New Year by making their own Rooster scrolls (the 2017 animal). After finishing their roosters, Mrs. Heinske led the students in writing, with ink and brushes, the word rooster in Chinese. She also brought in a gorgeous Chinese scroll that her father painted - the children were amazed (see photo below)!
