There's Value in the Deep

Last week, PreK learned about value in art (the lightness and darkness of a color) and looked at whale murals by Robert Wyland. His beautiful deep sea murals helped the students visualize how the ocean becomes darker with depth because there is less and less light. To create their own deep sea compositions, they mixed their own paint, tinting and shading blue, and painted their perception of the ocean as it gets deeper and darker. Day two was all fun drawing underwater animals, cutting them out, and gluing them on. Whales, fish, octopus, jellyfish, sea turtles...Jacques Cousteau would be so proud!
