Native American Medicine Shields

Hopefully you've all seen the medicine shields your first graders brought home this week. They began this project by closing their eyes and going on a vision quest to find their power animal. They then embarked on decorating their shields: they started with a pattern of geometric shapes around the perimeter; they drew their power animal in the center; they added symbols to represent something about themselves/their animal; and finally strung beads onto feather strings and attached them to their shields. I'm so proud of all of their focused creativity!

By the end of class most were wiggly with excitement -
hopefully your child is somewhat clear in one of these photos!
