Cathedral Sketching

Sixth graders began the year by studying human proportion and drawing self-portraits, so I thought it would be fun to round off the year by returning to proportion and observation but this time with an eye towards architecture. Students watched a video on Stephen Wiltshire, an autistic savant who is able to draw cityscapes from memory with amazingly accurate detail. After taking an observation "quiz" about Cathedral (ex: what color and pattern is the upstairs school floor?) sixth graders took their drawing boards across the street to start sketching the front of the Cathedral. Prayers for clear skies these next couple of Tuesdays!
