Art Club: Painting on Canvas

The last art club session of the year has wrapped up with first and second grade students painting a "favorite thing" on canvas. They painted from the background to the foreground, mixed their colors, and kept an eye out for details and texture. Animals, macaroons, the Empire State Building, a globe, and a sunset...all painted with skill and lots of joy. And to our parent volunteers, Mrs. Bost, Mrs. Boyd-Young, Mrs. Kiec, and Mrs. Romero thank you, thank you, thank you! You were absolutely amazing and we couldn't have done it without you!

Outdoor Sketching

Seventh graders wrapped up their art year with their last project this week, sketching Sacred Heart Church. Before beginning, students watched a video on Stephen Wiltshire, an autistic savant who is able to draw cityscapes from memory with amazingly accurate detail. After taking an observation "quiz" about Cathedral's features, sixth graders took their drawing boards outside to sketch. Time ran a little short but they did some amazing work with what they had...

This is Me and Where I Live

Kindergartners' exploration into self-portraiture was a huge success - they really captured themselves! They started by looking at themselves in mirrors and sketching their face. Then, after choosing their hair and skin tones, they painted themselves in the foreground and colored their homes in the background with crayon. Beautiful artwork kindergartners!
